Player Evaluations and Assessments

UpdatedSaturday January 22, 2022 byLO.

First and foremost: do not come to assessments if you or your child have any COVID-19 symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose, stomach ache, headache, or diarrhea or if anyone in your household had tested positive for COVID-19. If possible register your child online before coming to evaluations, but there will be in-person registration available.

Evaluations at Live Oak Little League are an incredibly important aspect of being in Little League, as they directly affect how players are drafted and how teams are formed.

Saturday, January 22: Green Acres Elementary School Minors Field

Players will only need to attend one of the assessment dates.

Important Note: If your child will be in the T-Ball or Farm Division, they do not need to attend Evaluations, as T-Ball and Farm are very non-competitive and all the players are beginning to learn the game together.  If your child is in the AA Division or higher, then they must attend Evaluations and Assessments.

If you are unsure what league age your child is, please consult the 2022 Little League® Age Chart below.

Schedule:

  • 9:00 a.m. - 7 & 8 year old players
  • 9:45 a.m. - 9 year old players
  • 10:30 a.m. - 10 year old players
  • 11:15 a.m. - 11 year old players
  • 12:30 p.m. - 12 year old players

All groups will warm-up along the right field foul line, perpendicular to the field, 15 minutes before the start of their age group. Arrive up to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time, as the times may move quicker than expected.  Evaluations will consist of fielding several ground balls at shortstop and throwing to first, fielding several pop flies in left field and throwing to second base, and batting off the pitching machine.  All participants will also be required to run the bases.

Players who do not participate in Evaluations and Assessments will be unable to participate in All-Stars.  This is Little League International Policy.

Please arrive On Time. This is very important so that your child does not miss his or her age group tryout time slot by getting tied up trying to register, and so the managers will be able to easily track the players they are evaluating for the draft.  We pre-populate our Assessment schedule by looking at registered kids to make it easier for the process to happen, so your cooperation in registering early is the number one thing you can do to keep evaluations moving smoothly.

Live Oak Little League Evaluations and Assessments are not "tryouts" in the traditional sense of "some kids make it onto a team and some kids don't."  ALL kids will be able to play and make it onto a team regardless of their skill level.  Kids need to attend assessments, such that the managers have accurate information available to them in order to balance the teams correctly and place players in the correct division.  As described during the registration process, the division your child registered for is only a guess at their skill level and not set in stone.  Player Evaluations help greatly in placing your child in the most appropriate division and team.

Things your player will need at Evaluations and Assessments: A Baseball Glove, Cleats, Water, and a Positive Attitude!

We recommend they also have a baseball hat to help reduce sun glare, and they are also welcome to bring their own bat, but bats will be provided by Live Oak Little League and players are not required to bring a bat.
